Basic writing building blocks you need to craft a powerful memoir. Bonus tricks and tips AND inclusionin a publication. --This six-week course includes exercises, in/class feedback, and written personal feedback from me on 5-10 pages of writing), written critique and (if desired) publication (of a short passage related to your writing process) in a poetic, 100-page prescriptive non-fiction (currently in progress) book about memoir writing. The book will be self-published and available for purchase (free for workshop participants) before spring.
Many of the participants in this workshop are writing trauma/grief based memoirs.
Shake things up and channel your inner artist. Write a book you are truly proud of. Get published.
Why I started this course Clients often come to me with a mess of a manuscript they have devoted a lot of energy towards writing but need help salvaging. By that point, help is expensive. Authors are disheartened and frustrated with their process.
Authors with the best intentions and compelling stories often attempt to write their books blindly, without having learned or practiced some of the basics. That tends to make things more difficult than they need to be. Everyone who has dreamed of writing a book, can write one. Pick up a few tools, learn some tricks. Then go full force and embark on the challenging (for everyone) task of writing your story.

Topics --Topics include the basic building blocks of writing (character development, dialogue, structure, tone, plot, pov, voice, tension, setting). I will also share topical wisdom I have gleaned over a decade of ghostwriting trauma/ human rights-based memoirs such as: poetic devices for filling in gasps in memory, clever ways to disguise characters in your book for legal or safety purposes, giving yourself permission to tell your story.
A word about course structure. I was an introvert before the word was a concept printed on t-shirts and information shared with others. I know how infuriating group/class settings can be. Accordingly, I will go above and beyond to insure each person in the class gets a chance to read aloud regularly, ask and answer questions and speak their mind. ----------------- If you have any questions, please email me.
